The Long Fall is a song by Jars of Clay. It was the first song off of their record The Long Fall Back to Earth and is an instrumental intro to the next song, "Weapons".

Meaning[]

Dan Haseltine: “The Long Fall Back To Earth describes that sobering moment in a relationship when you move from the euphoria of being in love to the reality of what it means to live in relationship with someone else on a day to day basis.”

Stephen Mason: “The instrumental title cut, ‘The Long Fall,’ was based on a concept we had toward the end of recording the album. Dan had this piano piece -- the one you hear at the beginning of the song -- and we all just kind of added to it until it seemed to flow seamlessly into ‘Weapons.’”

Matthew Odmark: “In fact, those two songs were pretty much written simultaneously -- which is unusual for us. And we loved the idea of two distinct pieces of music that connected and spoke to one another.” [1]
